Conference on the Social History of
This conference aimed at providing further insight into the modern, social history of Petra and its surroundings in order to contribute to the documentation of the society’s structural phases and development. Furthermore, it sought to increase the availability of additional new information about the area, the people, the economy and social life. In so doing, it also had the goal of identifying the results of national development programs in the area and assessing the efforts of development and modernization.
Other foci of the conference were on the identification of the effects of tourism and heritage facilities; the status of services that are essential for meeting the needs of the people in the development of the area; and the population growth necessary in order to sustain heritage and tourist resources.
